Huawei unveils air & liquid cooled C&I storage system in SA
Huawei Digital Power Sub-Saharan Africa FusionSolar recently brought together industry partners and key stakeholders from the continent’s Commercial & Industrial (C&I) energy sector to unveil the LUNA2000-215 Series, the world’s first hybrid air- and liquid-cooled C&I energy storage system (ESS), which it highlighted sets a new benchmark for efficiency and performance.
During his keynote speech, Mr. Xia Hesheng, President of Huawei Digital Power Sub-Saharan Africa, emphasized the theme of “Growing and Thriving Together in the New Era of C&I.” He highlighted the need for a paradigm shift in how businesses evaluate the quality of their original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), urging delegates to adapt to the evolving demands of the industry.
“The “PSSOCT” Reliable Partner model will be essential as the landscape changes because companies will need to consider a partner who is Product-, Solution-, Service-, Operation-, Company-, and Technology-Reliable (PSSOCT),” said Xia. This is the kind of OEM Huawei strives to be for its customers.
Xia said three key factors are driving the growth of Africa’s C&I sector: Unstable electricity supply, higher electricity prices (the average tariff increase from energy providers on the continent is more than 10%), and reduced commodity prices that are making solar technology more affordable over time (solar panel costs are now 52% lower and Lithium Carbonate prices have reduced by 85%). This has led to booming demand for C&I PV+ESS solutions in Africa. Xia foresees this shift transforming businesses from solely being energy consumers into becoming energy consumers and producers too.
He went on to emphasise that diverse stakeholder roles in the C&I sector require an OEM that can offer flexible solutions and meet their priorities. These can include anything from having safe operations to providing a return on investment (ROI), and higher energy efficiency. Owners, Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) partners, Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) teams, and distributors can have their needs met by a reliable partner like Huawei.
Xia also highlighted Huawei’s “PSSOCT Reliable” framework, a comprehensive model for assessing OEM partnerships. Huawei says it stands out because of its proven product reliability, demonstrated by long-running projects like the 14-year operational Golmud PV Plant and 620+ GW of shipped Smart PV solutions. Its scenario-based One Stop Solution ensures seamless integration, higher yields, and smart O&M, while its local service networks—including warehouses in 16 countries—guarantee rapid support.
Beyond technology, Huawei is strengthening local economies through tax contributions in 27 countries, 3,000+ direct jobs, and 50,000+ indirect employment opportunities.
