Yellow Door Energy’s 48MW solar project in N.West gathers steam

The electricity produced by the project will be distributed to Yellow Door Energy’s customers across South Africa via wheeling.

Leading commercial and industrial solar energy developer, Yellow Door Energy, has announced that it has successfully completed the development phase of its 48 MWp solar PV plant in Leeudoringstad, in the North West province of South Africa.

The solar energy developer revealed that a significant portion of electricity to be produced by the shovel-ready project has been committed to companies for purchase via long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs). The company also announced that it is in discussion with reputable businesses to offtake the remaining capacity.

The electricity produced by the project will be distributed to Yellow Door Energy’s customers across South Africa via wheeling, utilising the state-owned electricity grid. Yellow Door Energy is looking to become a major player in the solar wheeling market through the project.

“The 48 MWp development propels Yellow Door Energy into the forefront of solar wheeling and overall renewable energy leadership in South Africa,” said Jeremy Crane, CEO of Yellow Door Energy.

“This is only the beginning as the next phase of development entails an additional 192 MWp of solar PV capacity, bringing the total to 240 MWp in Leeudoringstad. We’re excited to be helping companies in mining and other heavy industries significantly reduce their energy costs and benefit from a clean source of electricity,” Crane added.

Founded in the UAE in 2015, Yellow Door Energy is now a major player in the C&I solar energy space, with about 80 MWp of operating wheeling projects in international markets. In South Africa, the company provides cost-competitive renewable energy solutions to leading commercial and industrial businesses.
