GameChange secures 500 MW solar tracker orders in SADC

Three of the orders are for the projects in South Africa, and one in Zimbabwe.

Solar tracker solutions for ground-mounted PV plants supplier, GameChange Solar, has secured orders for its Genius Tracker solar trackers for four new solar projects totalling over 500 megawatts (MW) in Southern Africa (SADC).

The company revealed that three of the orders are for the projects in South Africa, including a Risk Mitigation Independent Power Producer Program (RMIPPPP) project in the Northern Cape, two private sector projects to supply electricity for mining operations in the Northern Cape and Limpopo regions.

Additionally, the fourth project is a private-sector project located in Zimbabwe which forms part of phase one of the 185 MW Zimplats solar plant. The project is set to power Zimplats’ platinum mines, Zimbabwe’s biggest mining operations owned by South Africa’s Implats. The project is expected to begin producing power by the end of May 2024.

“Southern Africa has an enormous opportunity to change the energy landscape in the region with utility-scale solar projects, particularly in South Africa, where solar will help alleviate its ongoing energy crisis and help transition from polluting fossil fuels to clean energy,” said Derick Botha, CCO at GameChange Solar.

GameChange has delivered over 30 GW of solar tracker and fixed tilt systems globally. The company recently announced the establishment of a training and service centre for its Genius Tracker products in Cape Town, South Africa.
