AMEA Power breaks ground on 50MW solar project in Ivory Coast

Dubai-based renewable energy developer, AMEA Power, recently started construction on the 50 megawatts (MW) Bondoukou solar project in Ivory Coast. The facility will be built for US$60 million and is expected to generate 85 GWh of clean energy annually.

AMEA Power is building the project through its Ivorian-registered project company AMEA Goutougo. The Bondoukou solar plant in Bondoukou will be located in the north-eastern Gontougo region and is fully owned by the UAE-based renewable energy firm.

“The 50MW solar plant is a landmark achievement for Ivory Coast and a testament to AMEA Power’s dedication to delivering clean energy solutions across Africa,” said Hussain Al Nowais, Chairman of AMEA Power.

“This groundbreaking ceremony is an important symbol of partnership, we are proud to partner with the government and the people of Ivory Coast on this transformative journey,” Al Nowais added.

Solar project to impact socio-economic development

The Bondoukou solar PV plant is expected to deliver power to meet the needs of approximately 358,000 households, while offsetting more than 52,000 tons of CO2 emissions. 

Additionally, the solar project will also help drive socio-economic development and create jobs before construction, during construction and in its operational phase. AMEA Power also aims to work closely with local communities to support community projects that enhance socio-economic development in the Gontougo region.

The UAE renewable energy firm announced that through its ‘Community Investment and Development Programs’, the company will launch key social initiatives focused on gender equality, education, and skills training, ensuring a lasting positive impact.
