Fimer & Enie collaborate to set up inverter manufacturing facility in Algeria

The partnership will start in 2022 and will include the manufacturing of different types of solar inverters that will serve the markets included in the Maghreb area.

Italian inverter manufacturer, Fimer and Algerian electronic components producer, Entreprise Nationale des Industries Electroniques (ENIE), have signed an agreement for the production of photovoltaic inverters in Algeria to cater for Algeria’s renewable energy procurement programmes.

The parties aim to achieve a local installed base of 13 GW within 2030. The partnership will start in 2022 and will include the manufacturing of different types of solar inverters that will serve the markets included in the Maghreb area.

“We are happy to officialize this joint venture with ENIE, after years of hard work” commented Ambrogio Carzaniga – Board Member of FIMER – who added: “ It not only confirms FIMER’s constant commitment in adapting its business model to the different needs of the markets but it also contributes in promoting the presence of leading Italian companies in Algeria, and more in general in the Maghreb area, as well in expanding Italy’s business community’s presence in the North African geo-political chessboard with which we have a long standing socio-cultural tie”.

The contract was signed in the city of Sidi Belabes, by the CEO of ENIE and Salah Ali Aoudia, FIMER’s representative in Algeria. The signing of the agreement also took place in the presence of the Minister of Industry, Ahmed Zghdar, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Abdelbaki Benzeyane, and the Minister of Energy Transition and Renewable Energy, Ben Attou Zayan.

Late last year, Algeria launched a tender for the procurement of 1GW solar energy from independent power procedures under its renewable energy programme. Developers were invited to submit proposals for projects ranging from 50MW to 300MW. Fimer and Enie hope to supply inverters to winning bidders manufactured from the local facility. Algeria’s renewable energy tender requires developers to source for some of their components locally.
